What We Do

Women and Young People's Service provides a free and confidential service in the following;

Family Planning Clinics (Drop in and appointed):

Provides advice and supplies on all methods of family planning, pregnancy testing, contraception advice, cervical smear tests, and sexual health advice.

Young People’s Clinics:

Options, our young people's sexual health service, offers friendly informal and fully confidential advice and information for all young people 25 and under, including under 16s. Options run 3 young people specific clinics in the borough. Options have a specialist team including a teenage pregnancy advisor.

Pregnancy Counselling and Abortion Service:

Provides counselling support, assessment for termination of pregnancy (abortion), day care surgical and medical termination for early pregnancy. Our counsellor will also see women if they are unsure they wish to continue with the pregnancy to talk through their options, and provide a post-termination counselling service for those who require it.

You can contact the service directly on 020 7377 7870, alternatively referral can be through a GP, local Family Planning Clinic, or the Ambrose King Centre.

Cervical Smear Tests:

This can be done at your local family planning clinic without an appointment. Alternatively there is one specialist smear clinic each week at the Sylvia Pankhurst Centre.

Other Specialist Clinics:

Women and Young People's Service provide other specialist services at the Sylvia Pankhurst Centre that require a GP referral and appointments will be given.

Menopause for symptoms associated with the menopause and related health problems and matters. Provides advice, support and treatment options.

Pre-menstrual problems for women who have health problems or difficulties associated with their periods.

Psychosexual problems we have 2 psychosexual counsellors who see individuals or couples together who are experiencing sexual difficulty.

Domiciliary Service:

We are also able to offer a limited home service. This is for clients who have particular difficulties getting to a family planning clinic, they can be visited at home for
advice and contraceptive supplies.

Interpreting Service:

At most community family planning clinic we have Bengali interpreters. Other languages spoken by members of our team include: Bengali, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujerati, Mandarin Chinese and Tamil.
